Default Is this Normal......

I have been smelling exhaust whenever I let off the throttle so, not knowing much about motors, I was thinking maybe my air cleaner is dirty and making the mixture rich thus the strong exhaust smell.
When I removed the cleaner a drop of oil fell on the motor and there was some oil residue in the throttle body and the inside of the air filter but not enough to clog the element. My oil level is not high (1/2 quart low when cold).
Is this normal? I called the dealer and he said it was normal but I seldom believe what he says.
Also any thoughts on the exhaust smell? I called an Indy tuner and he said my decel map may be too rich.

You could check the head pipe nuts on the heads and see if they are tight. First (when engine is cold) do a hand over hand down from heads and verify for your self that all the slip joints are tight and not opening with rust or mfg defect you may have to drop heat sheilds to do a proper inspection. And then when bike (engine) is up to running temps and while running at idle, take a strip of paper and hold next to all pipe flanges from heads and slip joints to see if paper moves when sliding over those areas. If so thats maybe your leak.
