Default Automatic primary tensioner

I don't know if I'm a retard, or what. Just installed the HD automatic primary tensioner on my 05'K Standard. Over all, the majority of people on this forum say they use the Hayden M6, others the HD. It seems that the overall time everyone says it took them to put this on was 20-30 minutes. Well, it took me about 3 hours. I removed the passengeger and drivers floorboards, as well as the heel and toe shifters in order to cleanly remove the primary cover. I am admittingly not a wrench, and I certainly enjoyed doing the project, but am I missing something or am I just slow as Sh$t? Anyway, came out good, shifts smooth and will hopefully save me some maintenance down the road.

No really, I don't buy the 20-30 minutes time, does that include R&R primary cover? Realistic time would be closer to 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours including cover R&R for first time experienced wrench install. Don't need to pull floor boards completely off.

Bill, I am glad you brought this up. There seems to be a lot of 20 to 30 minute jobs. When working on your bike. I just installed the Kuryakyn iso grips. And it took 2 hours but I took my time lubed all the cables lined all the controls up torqued ever thing to specs. And all is well. The dealer is always in a hurry. When I get my bike home. I always end up re ajusting things. And like most people I enjoy working on my bike. Bob.

hour and a half to put on the M-6 for me. can't see how you could leave the floorboards on, rear has one bolt so off it comes. front could be left on I 'spose but 2 of the 3 bolts would have to come off, so may as well take it off completely. front shifter can stay on.
I usually drop a screw, bolt, nut or washer when taking something apart and spend half an hour cussing and looking for it!! How can they disappear and then reappear right where you have looked several times over the last few minutes?
wrenching on your scoot beats almost any other past time.

Now you know how long it really takes (first time), now assume you have done 20 of them, do you think you could do it in 20 minutes, if not then the time everyone is quoting is brag time and not the actual time involved to do things correctly. Note brag time is not the time you would actually pay someone to do the work cause it's always way too low. Brag time is needed when discussing a repair around a bunch of people that have done the same type of repair, it makes you special, or if your bragging is really in left field it lets everyone know you are not a very good story teller. There is the case where someone has found a short cut thats a real pain in the **** and only they can do it cause of the double joints in their fingers. For the most part, what ever the book time listed by HD is would be considered a time to shoot for, and if you did it every day, in time you would beat the HD book time.

I assume all you guys are like me in this regard, when I did this job I cleaned the inside of the primary coner, the edges where the gasket will sit, and while I had everything apart, took the time to clean and wax all the places you sometimes can't get too. I guess I got to figure that as part of the time too.
