I had such a problem getting mine around the reflectors on the down tubes I snatched them off. Still got to get the rest of the foam and glue off the frame. I'd like to have a pair of the hard fairing lowers. I'm lookin'.....
I have the Bar & Shield soft lowers and they work great. Easy to put on and take off. I had to open up the seam a couple of inches to fit my highway peg mounts.
I had a set of airlite soft lowers until I found a set of vented lowers on craigslist, wish I had my soft lowers back in a way. Check em' out very easy to install and store. They also block more wind then the H-D vented lowers, they also don't look too bad.
I use the soft lowers on my 08 Road Glide. I just don't snap the lower snap abound the reflectors and it works fine. It would go on easier if I removed the reflectors, but I am too lazy.
I have a pair of the HD bar & shield soft lowers and use them, a lot. Took a trip around Lake Michigan with them. They fold up neatly and are easy to store. Like caveman, I had to open the slot for the footpegs. All it took was two cuts about an inch long so they slip over the Kury Dually ISO pegs .
I had a vinyl pair of like the Elephant Ears on my metric. Used them a lot but they got stiffer and they got older. That's the nature of plastics. Also didn't pack up as well as the HD.
Only downside I see is they suck up a little power on the freeway because of the added wind resistance. Over 80 and you'll notice it in you MPG.
I got them here...not my first set from this guy, quality is outstanding http://www.sagebrushdesigns.com/
On my Road King, they blew the wind right up in my face until I installed the walrus tusks, Harley chrome lowers...Now, there is no buffeting and very warm feet on cold mornings...
I have a set of the HD soft lowers and they seem to help. I cut and stitched a hole for my highway pegs and they fit nicely. On & off quickly and can throw them in a side bag if things warm up.
