I got a flyer from my dealer advertising winter storage. I plan on storing the bike myself. The flyer claimed they spray on some kind of protective coating before they cover the bike up. Does anyone have any idea what that is?

A good coat of wax is really all you need unless you are in a very humid/salty area. I make sure my bike is at least clean, and if possible have a reasonably recent wax job on it. Put some stabilizer in the fuel and run it awhile to get it circulated, pull the plugs and spray some fogging oil in the cylinders and turn it over a couple times (then put the plugs back in), cover it, put it up on the lift, hook up the tender and try not to think about it until spring.
I've never heard of coating it with a spray, seems you'd just have to remove this in the spring. I agree a clean recently waxed bike with a cover seems to work for me. I also roll the tires on pieces of wood, add Sta-Bil to the gas and stuff rags into the mufflers to deter mice, and of course plug in the battery tender.

Okay, I live on the coast so what to do for the salt? I still ride when ever I can so it's not really ever in "storage". I do ride in the rain and wind. The bike is garaged when I'm at home.
Love that stuff!! Use it after every wash. Put it on all the nuts and bolts and just about everywhere else. There are places you can't wax. Just wipe it down before I ride.
