As a second bike only, just for a difference in riding.

...and I don't get the "I'd have a Softail for a BAR HOPPER" thing. ?????

I ride my Street Glide to the bar, every time I go there.

My friends who ride softails always tell me that if they rode long trips they would buy a bagger, but they just like to bar hop. I told them that it is nice to be comfortable when bar hopping too.

I'll never go back.

I had a softail Classic and a Ultra classic at the same time. I thought I would ride the softail around town and the Ultra on the Hwy. I hardly ever rode the softail and finally sold it. I think the ultra handles better around town than the softail.

Actually if you already own a bagger, why would you think of a softail?
I would think the same if I have extra cash and i want to get a different ride.
And then, I would probably get a Street Bob.
That is just me.

Still have my Sporty 240 Rear Wide Tire as I dubbed it my 'Bad Mood' bike. Went up to '06 RKC for 3 years. Traded it in for '09 Ultra. There's no looking back including the Softails even though I still miss my RKC and it's fond memories the bike gave me.

I have a soft-tail and a SG. Both nice.......but there is no comparison in ride, handling, comfort when on the SG.

Now, I do like the looks of a nice split-tail..oops, I mean soft-tail.

I switched over from a Softail in January. I really liked that bike, and rode it all over from here to Washington. I've only got 9,600 miles on this bike, but I'd never go back. ABS, cruise control, radio, tach, and a lot more comfortable ride. And I think this bike handles better than the Softail did.

Let's not get into this "What bike is better than what" thing. It's what bike is better for you.

Think of them like apples, Is a Granny Smith better than a Macintosh? Depends on whether your cooking or eating off the tree.

I have both a Softail and a Road King, and they both serve there purpose. To say that i'm downgradeing when I ride the softail is idiotic.

For two up trips or rideing in colder weather, I perfer the Road King (So does the wife). Windshield is great, wide front tire handles good, storage space.

For cranking around on warmer days solo, "barhopping", if you will, I perfer the softail. Lower seat hight, easier to back up (especialy on gravel) Much, Much quicker acceleration.

The softail gets more looks and comments than the Road King, but I ride the Road King more.

Obviously this was posted in the touring section, so people are going to defend what they ride, but decide what your needs are and make a decision based on that, not what someone else is doing.

No. I kept the RK and bought a Heritage. I like both of them very much.
