Default Switched Power Source For Relay Trigger

Hi, can anyone recommend a source for switched power on my 2006 Road King that I can use as a relay trigger? I’m installing new switched circuit to power my heated grips and jacket. Something in the nacelle would be most ideal but something in the battery area would be good too.

Thanks for any help,

If by "switched" you mean activated by the ignition switch, just turn the bike's ignition switch to Acc and with a voltmeter check the various colored wires (black is usually ground) in the nacelle. If you mean switched downstream of the ignition, use the existing Acc switch on the left rear of the nacelle. The connector downstream of that switch should be under the seat in front of the battery with a rubber cap, probably clipped to the frame, and that should be a good location to use.

I purchased a splitter at my HD shop that plugs into this connector, but I couldn't find it on their site tonight. I'll check my receipts for a part number tomorrow. I cut the wires to one end of the splitter and used the 12V at that location to power my heated gloves. I didn't use a relay because I'm only drawing about 3A for gloves only, but you should use a relay if you'll also be using the vest/jacket.

On my SG the O/R wire on that connector is 12V with the ignition on, regardless of the position of the Acc switch. The O wire is switched by the ignition and the Acc switch, so that one might be the best to use. You could also splice into the same colored wires on your Acc switch in the nacelle if you like. Either way (under seat or inside nacelle) you could use the Acc switch to toggle the heated accessories on and off. I'm using the Acc switch and a controller.

Edit: The splitter I referred to is HD #70264-94A.

Great info iclick! I hadn’t noticed the plug under the seat. If it’s switched then I’ll use that for my relay trigger, put the relay under the seat and power my heated jacket from there. Since the grips pull less than three watts I’ll just use the orange/white switched wire in the nacelle for my grips. This will save me from having to run a hot wire from the battery into the nacelle. Thanks again and especially for that part number.
