Default Slip on Replacement question

Hi Guys, I have a question concerning replacement of my stock mufflers with a new set of slipons. I purchased and received everything I need except for the Muffler clamps. Some of the placesI frequent say they have to be changed, some say the original clamps can be re-used.

Personally, I would think that they could be re-used provided they are inspected and not found to be cracked or damaged in another way.

What is everyones take on this?

I would replace the H-D Torca clamps (PN 65283-94) and torque them to 45-60 ft. lbs.

My "Wild Pigs" slip-ons didn't come with clamps. Re-used the stock clamps, no problems.

I put on Rush mufflers with the old clamps, had popping and leaks. Get new clamps, they're cheap.

Thanks Guys, I was hoping to try and use the old clamps to save me a 40 mile round trip to the dealer. I guess I may just bite the bullet and get the new clamps before I begin to keep from having to replace the clamps later.

had my original clamps on and off many times when experimenting with different exhausts.. they work fine. Get new clamps if it makes ya feel better.

I put on V&H slip-ons. They came with clamps, but the OEM clamps seemed a little beefier than the ones that came with the slip-ons. I used the HD ones, with no problems. I would use the original ones, you can always replace them in about 10 mins. in the future if you have problems.

The Torca clamps you get from H-D are the best to use. The issue with re-using them is that they have a lead lug that deforms once used. This makes them not quite as effective when re-using them on new pipes that might have slight differences in OD. I purchased new clamps when I installed my exhaust since it was a pretty cheap investment!

As you can see, using the old Torca clamps are hit or miss. The clamps that came with my V&H ovals where junk, as shown in the pic below. Note the clamp distortion and the exhaust leak!

I wasn't sure with that hour glass peace was called (lead lug). It appears to lock into place after it's first use. I can see just rotating the clamp to a different position on the pipe could cause a leak. For less than $15 I'd replace them.
