The dealer installed my v&h headers and slip ons. They used the v&h clamps. One side leaked from day one. I took the exhaust apart twice to make sure it was put together right. Still leaked.

Someone on this board suggested that I buy the harley clamps. I did. They are so much better than the clamps v&h supplies that I couldn't believe the difference. Put them on and no leaks since 10,000 miles later.

I would re-use my harley clamps over new v&h clamps anyday, but I would spend the few extra bucks for new harley clamps if I was changing exhaust again.

I've always just reused the "old" OEM clamps and never had an issue or even come close to having one. Course I also always change out the pipes as soon as I get the new bike so there are very few if any miles on it when I do it.

40 mile round trip? Just sounds like a reason to ride to me. Heck I think if I were you I would make sure it would take me at least 80 miles to get them.
Have Fun !!

I know the book says to replace them but I re-used my OEM clamps and they've held great.

As a matter of fact, I've had them off once more since changing mufflers (and I think we pulled one off during my last tire replacement).

I re-used my clamps; no problems at all. I'd only change if the old clamps
strip or are rusty.
Ride safe,
Dano
