I purchased my first road bike today! I got a used 2003 Electra Glide Standard. It's real clean and runs great. I didn't want to break the bank on my first bike, so I went with a used model. Here are my questions:
1. How hard is it to install the HD garage door opener?
2. If the screws in the windshield are loose, what can I do to fix it? I thought about putting loctite on the screws.
Congrats on your new scoot and welcome to the Dark Side. I cant' help on the first question, but the second I might. Are the screws loose or are the brass threaded inserts loose? If the inserts are loose, they have a newer replacement that are threaded into the fairing for a more secure grip. The part number esscapes me now, but I am sure someone will chime in on this.
1. I have never done a garage door opener, but some have installed on their high beam switch, others have installed an extra mileage reset button, the same as the one on your speedo.
2. As are as the windshield screws, I have never needed loctite on mine. While you are at it, take off the 3 on the windshield, and the 4 on the inside fairing, and check to see if your fairing brackets are broken. The two main fairing brackets usually snap near the top at the 90 degree bend. There are 2 others that go out to your speakers.
If you don't have a manual for it, now is a good time to order one. Even if you don't ever plan to rebuild an engine, it is good for even smaller jobs. Besides that, everyone here will rag you if you ask questions that are covered in the manual.
Congratulations on your first bike.
The HD door opener is very easy to install.
Is the screw just loose or is the brass insert loose? If the insert is loose I used Gorilla glue and a C clamp to get mine to stay in place.
Congrats on your first Harley. Nothin wrong with buying used...and its an anniversary year to boot!!!

Welcome to the touring section. There are some great people here who really enjoy sharing and helping. There are also those who enjoy ragging on others for asking what they consider a stupid question.
I say ask away and try to have thick skin. You will eventually get the correct answer. You can tell if you get several replies that match.
BTW, I like your approach with buying a used bike for the first one.
