I always like the idea of no payments. Minor stuff to fix, can do it piecemeal if you have to. If you get the new bike, that payment will be there every month for 5 years, or whatever, whether you're riding it or not [still have to pay in February even though you might not ride in February]. Plus, it's easier to justify "customizing" something not brand new, since "customizing" on a new bike generally involves removing and discarding perfectly good, brand new parts... somehow I can wrap my mind around doing that to older parts easier. Not much market for stock HD mufflers on ebay, brand new or not.

I say keep the 02, I have an 02 EGC and love it. paid half of what guys are buying new ones for. and half of everyone buying new ends up still sinking alot of $$'s into making it theirs anyways. if you bought a new one....you'll be wanting to change the exhaust and adding chrome anyways. do it to the 02 and save yourself alot of cash. mine looks as good as anybody's that i ride with that has newer bikes. just my .02
