Just wanted to give everyone a heads up. I've attached a photo of the shift rod link, the piece that is connected to the foot lever. Both ends are press fit ball assembly this end has a nut and washer the other screw into the trans lever with a rubber boot to cover them up but no way to lubricate. Last Sunday during my ride I ran i saw a chapter member on the side of the road, his shift rod link had warn out due to metal to metal contact and came out. It was a good thing I had a spare at home and was only 25 miles or so from where I saw him.
After we fix his bike and rode home I lubricated the links on my 07 RKC with 70w/90 oil. this is something everyone might want to check during any routine check on the bike. This also prompted me to replace those link with a "rod end bearing". Of course this for those who does not have one of those fancy shift rod.
On the advice on a thread here this is the route I chose.
Two heim joints and 2 new 5/16"-24x1" bolts and one
5/16" nylon lock nut,total under 15 bucks.
Much firmer and smoother shifting as well. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Heim-...6318QQtcZphoto
