My stock '98 RKC is pretty cold natured (hard to start) after sitting for more than a couple of days. Once it finally cranks and runs, it is not hard to start again that day. But, I don't get to ride every day, so I seem to experience this problem fairly often. I purchased it about 2 months ago with 23K on the odometer, so I have not learned all of the idocyncrises (sp?) just yet.
Take a look at what type of battery is in it . If your battery is original its probibaly time for a new one. I have always used the cheap fill yourself batterys, and had a few bad experiences with them, never again. I bought a 300cca "gel cell" maint. free battery from Deka Battery this spring and it is impressive to say the least. If you are interested I'll post the part# later.
My bike went through 2 cheap batterys with the same symptoms you are having. Jump it to start in a.m. when below 50*, and would start fine all day. Also make sure your positive lead on the starter and grouns are clean and free of corrossion.
Thanks for the input about the battery, but this appears to me to be a fuel issue to me. Based on how long it takes to me get it cranked, and I the fact that I am hear no discernable difference in the battery drain. I am about to go get on it this morning, so I will pay close attention to things and post an update.
