Been out of town......I also agree with above FCC License Dude (I have been FCC Licensed for 29 yrs and design comm systems as well) but going to RS and getting a metteris fine but why bother for a one time issue or So? My input for going to the local two way shop is a quick fix as well, but since the main issue here is to get you on the road and not cause damage to the CB I would adj your as another unit.
I checked two different bikes today one was mine both have the following measurements
From the top of the antenna rod (Corona ball) to the top of the spring (were the rod inserts into the hole) is 35.5 inches on both bikes the rod is all the way in the hole and is bottomed out with set screw tight and yes the ideal length is 103.....inches but 102 inches taking into account the length of antenna line and some histeris losses is close enough for a effhing CB ! I swear to God! Randy!!!
Hey MyRide7. Here are a couple more questions. Are you measuring 05 ULTRA..I have talked to 2 dealers and both say should be proper length when I get the new one. How safe ya expect it will be to leave it as is if it comes to be same length as what you say your findings are..How did you measure..Still on the bike or pulled it off and measure. If its not to much hassle, can ya do one more measurement..If it is bottomed out, pull it out and give me entire length of whip..
I have an 05 ultra & the cb antenna broke off on I81 in Tenn. I've found out that they've (HD) been having trouble with these antennaes, any way, the dealer replaced the whole unit, didn't have to reset the SWR. Should be covered under warrenty, ultra has 2 year warrenty.
just returned from Central Misery!! I measured the overall length of the antenna with it removed from the bike, The length from top to bottom is 36 and 1/8th inches. I believe (Unless the dealer has other ideas) you can cut the rod to this length and be fine. If you were an over the road trucker and used the CB all the time then I would have the SWR tuned for best. But I only use mine for short range communications and for road/construction reports.
I hope this helps.....................
In my humble, and I do mean humble, opinion I would also suggest "deleting" the O E antennas and replacing them with the shorties from Freedom Cycle Reno.
I see a couple have measured for me..Thanks..The one thing I am confused about is the difference..From 35 to 40 inches..The new one I got is like 46..Same as the radio one..I am now leaning towards the fact I may have to rip open the fairing and SWR the CB..So a few questions...Any set length for the piece of cable to hook up meters to the back of the radio..Also when I calibrate the SWR meter, Do I set the dial up so when I transmit, it goes to the very top of the scale and then what after that..Maybe I did not get how this will go down.??
I hear there is a problem with the 05 antennas. I lost my entire stalk and the dealer replaced it for free. Told me it was a "defect" on the 05 CB whips
just my imput
