I tried doing a search on GPS's but either no one is talking about GPS's
or the "new" board doesn't like me, probably both.
Anyway I am looking at getting a new GPS for my ride. I see HD
sells the Zumo 550 at inflated prices, anyone have one of these
or the generic Garmin version?
I have the Garmin Zumo (non HD) and love it. Get the Zumo and you will be happy. I use the 450 because I don't use bluetooth and can buy the car cradle separately, but if you want it all, get the 550
Check out pcnation.com for one of the best prices for the Zumo 550. Got mine there and would recommend them. Be careful with places that offer really cheap prices, it'll be a bait and switch.
But some people have bought from PCNation however, I tend to stay where they have great customer service. However, it changes your adventure because you can create your own route and it tracks that path for you -- and you never get lost!
I bought a Garmin Nuvi 255 the unit is mounted on the suction mount on the fuel tank cap cover i have 1000 miles with it there and no problems and only $270 the harley 550 is a total waste of money over priced, 411 on a cell for a local dealer works for me. Now the Garmin Zumo 450 at Costco for $350 is a great deal. If you want bluetooth, no xm radio and no text to speach(street name) you are looking at $650+ that I believe is the major diff. (Amazon has a 450 for $370 good deal too)
Get the original, NON-HD Zumo. You don't need another HD branded thing on your bike.
Zumo is great, glove friendly, meaning the touch screen will work with your gloves on. Some touch screens will not respond to gloves, so be wary of that. I have the 450, as I have XM radio on my bike already and see no need to have a piece of electronics constantly reminding me when to turn. I just glance at the screen and I know when to turn. Got mine at a good price from Amazon.com
I have the Zumo 550 and it's great. You can also download all the HD dealerships in the USA and that's probably the only additional thing you would get on the Harley Zumo 550. I've got the XM Radio and use the bluetooth for my blackberry phone. It's really nice to have in a big city at night or anytime you're on the road and need a hotel for the night or getting to the next/closest gas station (that saves a lot of sweat).
Go to Best Buy on line, they have factory reconditioned units that are less expensive and look like they are new. I got mine from them and have had zero problems with it. I don't use it that much, but why pay more if you get the same warranty as a new one and it works just as well?
