Default Bike trailer problems

I know it's not nice to trailer a bike, but for me I take mine with me when I work out of state for weeks/months at a time. Anyhow, early Friday Am I'm on the way home from Atlanta to Indiana. I slow down to exit for gas, thump/thump. flat tire on the right side.... crap. I limp into a gas station, gas up and change the flat. 2 year old trailer with less than 4,000 miles. I'm back in the road in 30 minutes. 18 miles down the road thump/thump what the crap... flat tire on the left side. Tire comes off the rim. I'm stuck in no-where's ville us 24 about 40 miles out of Chattanouga, Tn. First Tennessee State Trooper stops by 40 minutes later, He was 60 miles away when he got the call. Took me to Walmart, no tires. After a long search, we decided to for me to wait till morning. 3 Hrs. later another Tennessee State Trooper stopped and jokingly said, don't handle too good on a rim does it? He proceeded to call a local friend who owns a tire shop 5 miles away and said he would be there before I get there. It.s 5 am !! He tells me to drop the trailer and gives me directions to the local shop. Wound up buying 2 tires Why?.... I had read about the date codes on tires.... Come to find out on my 06 Haulmark trailer I ordered new... How about 0391 Yes 3rd month of 1991.. Lesson learned here folks.. Also,Gotta say HATS OFF to 2 of the Friendliest LEO's I have ever had the pleasure to meet.

Glad to hear everything worked out for you, I just picked me up a Trailer last week and towed it home 700 miles and had no problems, it has new tires on it including the spare but will keep an eye on them.

Now you know what dry rot looks like, & why RV's seldom replace a tire because of wear. RV's & trailers are notorious for having tires with lots of tread replaced because they're old. I agree, Haulmark shouldn't have mounted 15 year old tires in the first place, but keepin' an eye on 'em yourself might have saved you a late night stop.

If I'd bought that trailer new, I'd be in Haulmarks face about it - and offer to let the local news channels in on the story as well. Industry standards say that a tire that old should NOT be sold - and a trailer company DOES know better! IMO, Haulmark owes you the cost of the tires.
