Wow. Thanks for sharing that story!! Like everyone else, glad you survived as well as you did, with a great testimonial to your gear.
Pretty decent discussion on the phenomenon here, with some suggested technique to deal with it (and the above video too): http://www.msgroup.org/Tip.aspx?Num=190
Thanx for the link!
Every time I watch it, I keep telling myself.... 'That's going to leave a mark'!
I have always wore a half helmet. I love the freedom of them. I got tboned and was flotein thru the air feet first lookin at the sky. lucky I didnt roll over face down cause I had no feelin of how to move my arms or legs or head. so had I landed face down I would have road erased my chin and lower face.
I dont think I will ever ride without a full helmet again. I had no control to try and move my face had I hit face down. I will not take that chance again. I had leathers and gloves on and didnt have any road rash but busted both legs. Nothin would have stopped that, but there is just too dam good of safety gear out there to not wear it.
Hell lets face it 4,5,600bucks is nothing for most of us. we got 15-20K in the bike so a grand in the top ridein equipment should be called for.
And a grand is chicken feed to any hospital bills!!
Ride on guys
Hey sorry to hear of your accident. Hope you have a speady recovery. I was wondering what had happened with that new trailer and after a short search, now I know. If you need anything from a neighbor here in RI let me know. I went down after being hit in 05 and broke my back....I know how it sucks. Anyway get well soon, and I go through WG all the time.
Glad you're ok to talk about it. I had a similar experience on my RG. I was going around a sweeping turn about 85mph. Half way around the curve, I had the tank slapper. First time in 30 yrs. of riding. I rolled off the throttle and it came around by itself. I got very lucky. Someone I talked to said that was the best thing to do in a case like that. He also said to use the rear brake(gradually) and not the front brake to slow down during the wobble. Good luck to you and hope you're feeling better.
