You didn't say which bike you have. If it is a Roadking, Roadglide, or EG Standard that did not come with a tour pac you wil not need a different lic. bracket. It your bike came with a tour pac, (EG Classic, EG Ultra Classic) you will need to have a different license plate bracket as the brackets on these bikes are part of the tour pac bracket.
When I made the tour pac quick detach. on my EG Classic I used HD's laydown lic. plate bracket. It gives a very clean look when the tour pac is off.
You DO NOT need to replace the tag bracket. I made the tour pak on my 99 EG detachable and used the stock tag bracket. Everything fit just fine.
However, the bracket did not look good because of the tour pak mounting tabs on the top. So I dremeled them off. End of problem. [sm=signs007.gif]
PS - I eventually replaced it with a bracket from a RK.
When I did my detach tour pak I had to go with a different (laydown) plate holder because I eliminated all hte other brackets used. *** ALSO *** Buy yourself the quick disconnect locks !! You don't want to be somewhere then realize your tour pack is GONE. I can remove mine and replace it with a sissy bay in under 60 seconds. Food for thought.
Since I have all the detached fellas in one thread... have you had any issues with them? Do they vibrate, get loose? I had read in a another post where they were having problems after a year of on and off.
Anything we should add while installing it to ensure proper tightness?
