This a a great subject, I would have been here sooner, but I thought the subject was about the keys for locking forks.

We are going to Orlando for business in February and plan to rent Harleys and make this same trip. I looking to trade in my RKC for a SG, but I'm thinking of renting a RG before I pull that tirgger. My buddy is renting the Ultra.

Does Florida have a turnpike pass and if they do, how much?

Great discussion.

Haven't been to FL in a while, but I recall beautiful clear water onboth sides of the road or causeway. warm breezes and palm trees.

I also recall a whole lot of "little old ladies" in giant cars with poor vision and slow reflexes. Be alert or be flattened.

You will definitely enjoy the ride.

I was there once and enjoyed it. I'd say at least stay overnight so you have time to poke around and not be in a rush. You can go down and back in a day, but why.

Turnpike for sure, In WPB you have the blue hair thet will run you over slowly and keep on going, in MiamiDade the new arrivals are just crazy, cell phone talking, make up putting on, drivers so the Turnpike is best option then Card Sound Road, stop at Alabama Jacks, then enjoy the ride. I do it round trip in a full day you should stay the night, Key Weird is very biker friendly, strange people but good people having fun. As you get your schedule firmed let me know I might join ya on the ride or part of it if okay with you. I do love this ride, We are planning a HDF unoffical group ride to Key West in Jan.

Never been to Florida, but I did have a Yammy XS1100 w/ a Quicksilver (frame-mounted fairing) for a few years, back in the eighties. That bike was invincible on the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway); downshifting was rarely necessary, once in top gear, even two-up.
For many years, I only dreamed about owning a Harley. Almost 3 years ago, I rented a Fat Boy in HI for an afternoon. It was a blast circling the island of Oahu on it, even went through a downpour and kept going. Early last year, I tried to scratch the riding itch by buying a metric cruiser. It was good for a while. Later, my cousin let me ride his Road King; I was hooked. Bought my own (an EGS) shortly after that.
It's only a matter of time before you too will be joining the ranks...

Cool

Just before you cross the 7 mile bridge headed south, there is a place on the right called "Porky's" great food, cold beer and good entertainment.

I gotta admit I never expected this great of a response. Your input is really helpful. The links and suggestions for places to see/eat will be noted for the ride.

MB and CSP - cool to offer to ride along - will keep you posted as we get closer to leaving, maybe we can hook up!

Sounds like the consensus for the Card Sound Road and Turnpike are the best options. I'm going to get on GoogleMaps and pickup a paper map @ AAA. Time to try and get a plan together - although it may change when we get rolling. That's the nice part of vacation...take it as it comes.

Weather - any good sites with long range weather predictions? Let me know if you can. They give us rain gear with the rental - hopefully we won't use it much. I know alot of guys like the FrogTogs - might look into them if the rental stuff is crap.

Fishing - I love to fish, looked into some charters but $600/4hrs is too rich for my blood. Anybody have any experience fishing on the cheap (yeah right..in Key West?) with some locals or public wharfs that can pass it along would be great.

OK ... (1) week from today I will be getting ready to go to the airport! It feels like Christmas!!!!! Now all I need is HD to offer 0% financing ;-)
