HD bikes are VERY sensitive to plug wire changes as there is something in the spark system that is calibrated to the type of wires HD uses, almost any other type will make the bike toss all sorts of codes. I have posted about it before but right now I am too tired to go digging for the exact reason
Kind of like Toyota and O2 sensors, it is OEM or good luck, the only thing that comes close to working is a Denso and that is because they make the OEM
I ran some Accel plug wires, and while the engine seemed to run fine, it would trip several codes, and my speedometer would quit working, of all things. I reset the codes, and it ran fine, and the speedo worked. Changed back to me 10mm SE wires, no more tripped codes, speedo does what it's supposed to do. Simple thing, but that ECM sure seems touchy about changes like this.
if you buy them just for the braided covering, summit racing sells the covering in different colors you can put on your stock wires. just saying.
Thats a great idea Im going to look into that seeing as an Alleged upgrade in wire only causes issues so now that thats been established covers sound good about now ! I have some of the heat shielding wraps but my oem plug boots wont clear them so to summit racing I will go once I get my cam plate bearings in place today ! Thanks for all the input
Plain jane stock wires are good for 100,000 miles.I can't see any reason to buy anything else.
^^^Yup^^^
Do people think about changing the electric wire to aftermarket on their home appliances like TVs, washing machines etc to get "better performance or looks"?
Im sure there are some good wires out there for people who want the looks but they won't deliver electricity to the spark plugs any better or more reliably then OEM no matter what the marketing dept says at the aftermarket company. )
