Mine is plenty noisy once it gets hot. It was quiet until I put in 26G cams. Then, I got noises. I tried swapping lifters, adjusting pushrods this way and that way and putting in the famed Baisley spring. Nothing helped. I know lots of guys that run 26G's that are quiet. However, I have also talked to quite a few with the same results as me. It used to drive me nuts. After 21k miles of it, I'm used to it.

If your's ain't as noisy as mine, ride on with no worrie. Here's a video clip for a comparison:

A few months back I noticed when I started my road king it had a terrible sound emanating from the motor. From my drag racing and muscle car background I thought it to be a bad wrist pin or possibly rod bearing knock. This was at a cold idle, after a minute of warm up the sound was still there but quieted down somewhat. After 10-12 miles of riding at a stop sign I noticed the sound was gone completely and the motor was quiet. This went on for about 3 weeks riding the bike and starting it from a cold condition only once a week when going for a ride. Those rides where short only about 50-6o miles. I thought of taking it to a dealer to have them listen to it and hopefully get some insight to what it might be? or here that it was normal? Well long story short I went for a longer 100 mile ride a few weeks back. After that ride I went for another ride the next morning, when I started it that morning the bike was quiet right from the start. I could not believe it. My theory on this is I had a coked up or sticky lifter that must have freed itself? Now after even after a week at a time it is still starting up quiet. (knock on wood, LOL) Any one experienced anything similar?
BTW my bike is a 2004 and has 7000 miles on it, I have owned it just over a year. When I got it it had 1800 on it and I have ran Syn 3 in it since I have owned it, although I do plan on going to Amsoil or Red line on my next oil change as I think it will treT everything including the lifters better!

Different oils WILL make a difference in the amount of "noise" you hear. Dino will make your bike run quieter for the first thousand miles or so after a change...but then when it starts breaking down you will hear it.

I know the Mobil 1 is a fine oil, but I use the Royal Purple oil primarily because my top end is quieter with it than with the Mobil 1.

Experiment around with some different oils, you might be surprised the difference it will make in the HD clatter.

P.S.
I have a friend who runs Valvoline straight 60w in his 07. It is real quiet. lol He is down south and does not have to worry about cold starts.

My compensator sprocket was loose on my 04 at about the same mileage and gave a hammering knock in the low end. Had it tightened up and took my mistry sound away.

Dont ignore it....just get a louder exhaust, or put in some less restrictive baffles!
