I don't buy it . Though all my TC's have made noises I didn't really worry about. My wife's Sporty is pretty darn quite engine wise also. But really what got me is when I switched with a riding buddy of mine and rode his 97 Electraglide Standard. First off, when I started it the first thing I noticed was no "starter knock". Second, the only way I knew the thing was even running was to goose the throttle to hear the pipes. This thing was VERY quite. I also know why my bud is always blipping the throttle now
Granted there are ome noises that are normal but there are some that are not, they should not sound like an old Chev with solid lifters that is why they have hyd. lifters. I had this thrashing noise in mine and I was able to eliminate it. The dealer will tell you that this is normal or they can't hear the noise and this takes them off the hook. If you can identify about where the noise is coming from and if it is worse hot or cold you have a good start at solving your problem. I had my motor apart several times chasing this noise but I finally fixed it, so it is doable.

scooty, I've gone thru the same thing with two different dealers, saying they do not hear what I'm hearing. My noises are loudest between 2100 & 3000 rpm's. Is that the same as yours? What did you finally determine was the problem? Sorry for all the questions, but I want to get this resolved over the winter.
I have a 05 roadking with a 95" kit and 25,000 miles THE MOTOR SOUNDS LIKE IT HAS NO OIL IN IT....CLACK<CLACK<CLACK. oil changed every 3000 miles with mobil 1 vtwin 20w50 always use HD oil filters, had cam tentioners checked by dealer, primary adjusters and sprocket checked, all ok but sounds like a old truck with badlifters.Sick of hearing they all sound like that cause i know they dont...anyone got any suggestions? buddy of mine has replaced his lifters and pushrods with cam gear dive and still has similar noises. Are these engines that noisy?Should I learn to ignore it even if I hear it over my loud exhaust?

You don't say how long you have had this bike. If you bought it new or had it along time and it was not sounding like that before, you may have a problem, if you just purchased it and still have stock pipe on it, may just be normal. Put louder pipes. I have a brand new 09 Ultra and because the PC V is not out yet, have not changed the pipes. This is the first time I have ever ridden a Harley much with stock pipes and I have discovered this engine makes alot of noises I'm apparently not use to hearing because of the addition of aftermarket pipes.
UNCLELEO,
Like I said I had my top end apart probably six times right down to the wrist pins. I checked ond measured everything that you could check I replaced the rocker assys. lifters and still the noise was there when hot 2100-2800 rpm The noise sounded like it was in the ream rocker box so that is why I kept looking for trouble there. Then after all else failed I pulled the cams and oil pump assy and inspected them and found tha ball bearing sloppy and a funny tracking pattern on the rear cam so at this point I decided to replace the whole cam & pump assy as things looked marginal and I was out of ideas and this would eliminate everything in the cam and lifter system. Well that did it the noise is completely gone now all that is left is the normal engine noise. Also when I installed the new pump I put in a higher pressure relief spring which bumps the oil pressure up a bit and if you do this you need to replace the inner cam bearings don't use the ones that come with the kit buy the full compliment Timken bearings which are far superior and have twice the amount of bearings in them. The cam kit was around $ 425.00
