I am thinking of trading My 08 FLHTC for a 08 FLTR. I am having problems with the Cruise Control agin for the Second Time, it will not set, had it fixed a month ago and it is doing it again. The dealer has a 08 Road Glide with the Chrome Extras and Pipes already installed, I was looking at it before I bought My Bike, I should have bought it then. It is a Beautiful Bike, I really did not want Black to begin with but I went with it because of the options on it, I really wanted the Road Glide, It is Crimson Red. I wanted to Pay mine off here soon but I am thinking other wise now, What should I do?
My guess is that you are going to take a hit in the wallet when you do the trade. Probably more than you would spend to put the chrome goodies on your FLHT and completely replace the switch and control module for your cruise control. But you can do the math and figure out if that is the case.
So, it boils down to which bike will you enjoy more, if your existing bike was 100% again.
Well, this year i traded an 08 Electra for an 08 Ultra. Many thought for the money i was crazy, but you know what, i was the one that paid for it and i would do it again because it was what the wife and i wanted. So get what you like, and you won't be sorry.
It just may not be the cruise control system itself causing you problems. A couple of years ago I was having simular problem, it actually turned out to be a rear brake problem instead, the caliper was not disengaging completely ie brake drag. Because the caliper was not disengaging all the way it would not let me set the cruise. Turned out the new caliper they installed was a 4th generation redesign and had a service bulletin on it apparently this had been an issue for sometime. With the right tech this problem should be easily repaired. It sounds like you really just need an excuse to get the bike you feel like you should have bought in the first place. Quit making excuses and buy it, but go with the 09 instead of the 08.

It sounds to me as if you really are more concerned with the color. I know I am. Never wanted a blue bike, but got such a deal I couldn't not get it. However, it is about to be painted Crimson Red, which like you I really wanted.
