Default Help! Bolt Size Needed

I just got a black wind baffel, went to bolt it up and cant find the correct bolts. I thought it was a m6 .75 but ACE hardware is all out...

Does anyone know the size, and where to get one?

Thanks

1/4 x 20 Run a tap in the holes, to clean the paint and dirt out of the holes, before you put the bolts in.

i dont know the bolt size but if you think its an M6 then gs34doc is probably right with the 1/4 20. when in doubt all the hardware stores around here have a section where you can bring a bolt and thread it in and out on a wall chart to select what size your bolt is. or you can do it the old fashion way and use a set of calipers.

Yeah the hole is clean and I tried a 1/4 by 20 and it only turned 1/3 of a turn stopped dead...

1/4 x 20 x 1/2

The reason it didn't go in...you need to run a tap through the holes.
Excess powdercoating has the holes plugged.

Here's a cheaper way. Take your 1/4 bolt and "x" the end with a hack saw. You now have a poor man's tap. Run it in a couple turns, back it out, clean out the slots, repeat until threads are clean.

Reaper, if you have a dremel tool, the ultra thin grinding disk also works really well for slotting a bolt and much easier than a hack saw.

Using either method, put a nut on the bolt first, and after slotting the bolt, turn the nut off. That will clean up the threads on the bolt before you use it on the hole.
