I would think you could feel a rough spot by moving the rod, is it tight all the way around. I have seen Cummins cranks that appeared tight and they were just fine.

Go see for yourself what' going on, and PM PhilM and/or Dalton for advice.

Have the cam chain tensioners been replaced previously?

I was there and saw and felt both con rods and they weren't like crazy tight or seized by any means. In fact after moving the crank a bit they both seemed to flop but with a little little bit of help if you know what I mean. I really don't think theres anything wrong after 50K of running but ??????

I just spoke with a forum member who did this last week on a 99 and he had similar findings but went ahead with the build and so far all is well. I called HD and told him to go with the 1550 as planned.
