I'm just bought an 09 FLHT standard.
I don't really like loud pipes but was considering something a little beefer then the stocks. What is you opinion on the Screaming Eagle slip ons ?
They say they are street legal in a all 50 states.
I'm more into comfort then performance, but would like a little more sound.
I have them on my 07 FLHT...and I like them. They sound a lot better than my stock pipes but not much louder than stock. They sound better with every mile I put on them.
Be sure to get the current 07-08-09 model of the SS slip-ons.
They are perfect for a touring bike, I have a set on my 08 Ultra,
nice and rumbley around town, really mellow on the hyw. and all most don't hear them with the radio on at 70mph.
I had had the 09 SE one piece mufflers on my 09 RK for about a day. The difference in sound between the SE and the stock mufflers is virtually undetectable. I recommend against them. It would seem the current SE mufflers have been made to be quiet.
At present I have early (2002) SE mufflers on the bike and it sounds great!! These are non-catalytic mufflers as are the 09 mufflers
If you want a good sound consider those by SuperTrapp. (Any one want some 09 SE one piece mufflers??)
I've got a set on my 03 Ultra and love them. They can be noisy when you want them to and they can be quiet when you're riding through the neighborhood.
My buddy says that my '09 Ultra with stock pipes sounded great when he was riding with me...Not quiet or loud and says that one of our friend's '07 EG with SE Slip-On's didn't sound right. Just annoying sound to begin with and suggested me to stick with my stock ones as I was thinking of getting Jackpot Slash Down mufflers.
I would never consider any of the new versions of SE pipes anymore as they are EPA'd to death and just don't sound that great. I had the 03 SE pipes on my 02 Ultra when I had it and they sounded great and got even better sounding as I racked up mileage.
These days I would look at Supertrapp and/or V&H Monster Ovals if you want a good tone and performance mix. I am probably going to switch my Rhineharts to Monsters over the Winter.
