I have a Ram Mount and it works fine. I leave the ball mounted to the handle bars down by the fairing and you hardly notice it. I have a Ram suction cup with a ball on the end on the car and just move the GPS where I need it.
I used the same....1 U-bolt, 2 nuts to tighten and you're done. Can't get any easier
Close to duck tape but I used some wide industrial strength black velcro. Sandwiched it between the two ball mounts and attached it to the top and bottom of the GPS unit.
To remove unit, separate the top and bottom of the velcro strip and pop the unit out of the mounting ball.
Units not falling no where now and the black velcro blends in with the black mounting assembly. Could it be look better, sure but it's functional and makes removal easy to use GPS in another vehicle.
Time Involved= Under 5 minutes
Cost=0 (had velcro already)

I've had no problems with the mount or GPS coming loose. as a safety precaution, i attach a small steel fishing line around the handlebars just in case it were to come loose while riding. might save the GPS bouncing on the highway if it were to come loose, but thus far after driving over 20K with it, it never has given me any problems. i use the GPS also when traveling on business in a car, so it is easily removable for that purpose.

You have a different GPS and mount. I have the ball & socket type which is in my opinion not secure enough for use on a motorcycle.
The mount is a Ram mount, just that the extension is chrome. got the whole set-up from cyclegadgets.com appears to be the same thing you have, except my bottom mount uses a "u" bolt. no issues with it coming loose.
