Have you ever had a quick detach trunk before? (dunno what your past rides may have been)
I think you will find 2 things:
1. They are just plain stiff for the first half dozen or so detach cycles.
2. If this is your first detach trunk, there IS a "knack" to mounting it (IMHO) that at first, you feel like an idiot, but once you "get the hang of it" and the cams loosen up a bit, it will get easier. The cams need to be positioned in the right place for them to go on smoothly.
Did you try spreading or squeezing (whichever is needed in your case) the rear part of the bracket a bit? Just a little tweak can make a BIG difference. If the cams are pressing against the side of the mounting point on either the inside (seems to be more common) or outside edge, it can make them VERY hard to rotate.
Also, another tip: when mounting or dismounting the trunk, open your saddlebag lids. That way if you slip, the bracket will go INSIDE the saddlebag, instead of digging a nice trench into the paint on the tops of your lids.
