Question 2009 choices

ugh....i can't decide between an EG standard, RK, or SG...i haven't really gone out and talked deals yet...to me they're all more or less the same...

SG, $2K more, lowered, some nice chrome, hate the wheels, nicer seat, like the back better...

EG taller windshield (it looked the same but, is the batwing the same size as the SG?), no radio, nicer wheels, like the mirrors on the bars, and the grey engine......

RK, if i stay away from the batcycle look, and i already have one...

hmmm decisions, decisions...help????

Go rent a fairing bike for the day. Don't ask us, we're all biased..............

I'm just sayin........ Noone is going to be riding it, but you. Don't ask us, it always seems to open up a HUGE can of worms and then you end up with no answer. I rented a SG, and bought a RKC, so It was MY choice and I made it. Not a bunch a knuckleheads like us on here. Now go find the best deal you can. Harley, like everyone, is struggling. They should be begging you to buy.

The idea of rental is great. Try and find a dealer that will split a days rental with two bikes for 1/2 day each. I know they're out there. Go with a batwing for half a day, and then the King. Or consider the King with a detachable fairing. Those dealers that rent that way often take the price of the rental off the purchase price if you buy from them. The EGS in the flat black really looks sharp. I saw one yesterday at the dealer. Best part, $18,499, out the door. Everything! Brand new 09. No, it doesn't have all the chrome, or a radio, but it really looks sweet, and with just a little fine accents, it would look awesome. Oh, and batwing is exactly the same on ALL HD models! So that's something you don't have to worry about. Changing windshields is a five minute deal, so that easy too. Hope this helps.

I road tested at '09 RKC and ordered one. Then I rode a RK and an Ultra on the same day and cancelled the RKC order and ordered an Ultra. Still waiting for delivery.

I liked the idea of being able to take off the windshield on the Road King, leather bags and not having the "trunk". Plus, I was thinking the Ultra would drive like a large RV. Well after trying both, the faring felt better, though I am going to have the windshield shaved down an inch, and the handling was excellent. Then I decided hard bags woudl be easier to keep lookign good over time. Go figure. I can live with the trunk when travelling with the wife, and take it off when I go solo.

Try them and choose based on how that feel to you. It's the seat of your pants that has to decide.

best advise has been given above.... you need to drive each on. Either rent them or find a dealer that will let you test drive. Also, HD has their demo fleets they take all over the country during the riding season, if you can wait!

Enjoy your research and decision time - that can be fun.

FLHPI, I think all the advice given here is pretty good. I also face the exact same dilemma as you. A couple of other considerations are:
- The SG's resale is likely to be better, so if and when you need to sell, you will do it quicker and get a higher percentage of your money back IMO
- THE SG includes a radio, which will add $1,000 for the others
- The SG has some nice chrome, like the floorboards, shifter, brake, etc

In some ways, you could go with the EG Classic and spend $500 getting the detachable docking hardware for the Tourpak, which is about the same as you'd spend on the removable sissy bar/backrest combo for the SG. That way, you've got the black/chrome engine, passenger floorboards, higher windshield, more comfy seat, nicer wheels, but you'd have to spend a few extra $$$ changing some of the chrome bits to have it look "less like an EG Classic".

Anyway, let us know which way you decide to go!!!

Save yourself before it's too late. Get a RG and never look back.

Good luck?
