Well lots of good metrics at that price point around the 800 - 900CC range. I'm more than likely doing the same thing. I'm pretty sure the second bike will be a Triumph Speedmaster.
If your inseam is 33" or longer, take a look at the Suzuki V-Strom adventure-tourer. I've got the one liter and the riding position is very comfortable. I bought mine in '03 and have had no problems with it. It's a capable tourer but it will also make you smile through the twisties and on dirt roads too if you want. The six fiddy is also a good ride as long as you're not planning on much two up riding. They are both relatively inexpensive, reliable bikes.
you can prob find you a early to mid 90's model softail for around 8-9k i looked at a 94 last winter for 8500 at a dealer even had low miles they are out htere just have to look for them contact coolsprings harley or columbia harley both are in tn have prob 400 used bikes between the two i just bought one from columbia real good to deal with
Might take a look at a low mileage Road Star. 1700 air cooled cc's and a much better platform IMO then the 1300. Got to do what's right for you, it's not like you are giving up your HD card by owning both!
I love Harley's. But I really can't afford much for another bike. I'm looking to spend only around $8500. So (and this is the part you need to forgive me for) I actually looked at the new Yamaha 1300. Is that so wrong? Ok, let's hear it.
Contary to popular opinion around here... buying a Yamaha will NOT cause your ***** to shrink and fall off..... they're fine bikes, as are Honda's, Suzuki's, Kawasaki's, and Triumph's..What's important is spending time with your dad.... I agree with checking Craigslist, and Cycletrader.com but I wouldn't limit myself to ANY one brand....
Good luck, and I hope you get to spend some time with your dad
You store your bike at a dealer! Why not just ride it down to FL and leave it with your parents for the winter and drive it back in the spring, way cheaper to own one bike and you can ride it year round rather than store it, Same as airfare price wize. Doc
I live in Florida and with the economy right now there are a lot of good used harley cheep I ride a 09 street glide and I just saw a flier for a 05 sporty with 2000 miles on it for $4500 I am thinking about getting for my girlfriend
Another vote here on spending time with your dad. Just rent one when you can and invest that $$$ in your kid's education that way they will thank you at a later date. Family comes first then Harleys comes later.
