Default Planning a Trip

Anybody know what the following roads are like in Utah? I have conflicting reports. I have been told they may not be paved all the way, and that they are paved all the way.

Here is the route: U.S. 89 N. out of AZ across the Utah line to S.H. 12 E. over to Torrey, UT. Then S.H. 24 E. to 95 S. to Blanding, UT. Any information on this area would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Mike

It's been 9 years since I've been out there, but the roads you listed should at least all be paved, albeit some of them narrow two lanes w/o shoulders. According to my map, SH 24 doesn't go to Blanding; SH 95 comes out just south of Blanding on US 191. Really purty country out there!

Have a safe ride!

Thanks for the reply. My directions were general and not specific. I am hoping that someone who lives out there or rides out there a lot will jump in here............come on guys/gals, I bragged to my riding buddies I could get on here and find out anything we needed to know. Don't let me down now.

Those are very nice roads for taking a motorcycle trip on. But I hope you're also going to do Valley of the Gods and Monument Valley since you're that close (hang a right on 261 as you're cruising down 95 toward Blanding, it will be one of the highlights of your trip). Make sure you know where your gas stops are though as it can be a long way between towns.

We rode from Cortez Colorado, just out of Az. through S.E. Utah a couple of years ago. Took the road that goes west, not 666, to just south of Blanding, then 95 nortwest up Hamksville, then north to I-70. I don't have a map handy for route numbers. It's a lot Indian reservation. They're not overly friendly. The roads are paved where I rode. The rock formations are beautiful. Get gas when you can, it's desolate country, services are few and far between. If you're going north from Blanding toward Moab the road is fine and the scenery is spectacular. We did it in late May weather was perfect.

Get Google Earth.
I use it for all trip where I'm unfamiliar with the roads.
You can zoom in an see the roads and often their conditions.
It also allows you to FLY the route at a low altitude giving you a preview of the trip.

Mike,
I took that same ride in a car last summer. It is one of the most spectacular rides I've ever had. Missed the bike the whole time.
The scenery is amazing and it changes every time you round the bend.
A few cautions.
As stated earlier, it will be cold. I went in August and though it was 110* in Phoenix it was cool up there and it can snow.
Also, long rides between gas stops. Make sure you know where your next gas will be.
Part of the time you'll leave the good old USA and enter Navajo country. They like to write tickets.
Make sure you watch the road. The scenery is that distracting.

The roads are all paved highways with sweeping curves. Make sure you don't go THROUGH Escalante Staircase but AROUND it otherwise your friends will have to come looking for you in the spring.
Be sure to go to Monument Valley on your way out of Utah and into AZ. You'll never forget it. Bring your camera just in case.

Hey thanks!! I knew you guys would come through. Google earth is a good idea. I will also check out the "sites to see" mentioned. We are just making plans at this time and we won't be out there until the end of July '09.

Anybody else out there with info, jump right on in here and pass it on!!!

Thanks,
Mike
