RK Ape Install
My wife got me 14" apes for my birthday and I'm wondering if anyone has had any experiences they'd like to share with the install process. What height of rise triggers new cables, wiring, etc? Any information would be helpful. Likely won't get to this until spring, so no hurry. Although it's very tempting to see what they look like on the bike. 10" of snow last night so no riding for a while....

I just ordered up 18" tall 1-1/4" apes, powder coated black for my 07 king with almost everything included. i then orderes chrome switches, they come with super long wires that you can trim ti fit. way easier then extending them. a brake bleeder is also a good tool to invest in ( i learned this putting 16" w/9" riser on a sportster, manual bleeding sucks and takes forever).
10 inches the other day? Sounds like you're in my neck of the woods. Now is the perfect time to do it though (if u have a garage or living room, Ha!) when you can't ride!
Here's my DIY on a bar install that may be of use.

As far as what length cables it might help going to your bar's website to see if they have any charts. For mine I emailed Wild1 for the answer and they were spot on, then went to Magnum cables site and used their very helpful chart and part # to order from less expensive site (M&M Cycle). I made my own extended internal wiring (very easy). Web links to cables and suppliers are on the last page of the DIY.
If you like the DIY do me a favor and bump that thread to the top for others!
Enjoy!
