For all those that were questioning the correct level in the forks if you dont have the HD or any other fork oil level tool.
Heres what I found and I hope this clears any confusion. On a Bagger the book calls for 10.8 oz's of oil in each fork, first remove the spring and dampner, add the oil, pump the forks then set the tool at 142mm and suck the extra out.
Well I have the tool and did it the book way when I changed to powder coated legs. I measured the level after putting the forks back on the bike by removing the cap and used a long tie wrap inserted to the oil. The measurement will be 12" from the top. Hope this helps a lot of people that dont have the tool.
I made my own tool.
Had several of those "turkey injectors"...put a piece of hose on the end, than a small metal tube, piece of tape to measure distance.
I just drain the forks good, pump em up and down a few times, and then add 10.5 to 11 oz. Never checked the fluid level with any special gizmo, and never had any problems. By the way, I change it every 10k. That stuff gets nasty real quick.
