In a nutshell, you ride through WINTER as individuals (or small groups of riding friends) to a predetermined destination in all kinds of weather and temperatures to achieve mileage points and to partake in a relatively cheesy lunch (most times) before riding back home again as individuals. Then you spend a half day defrosting yourself and two-three days cleaning up your salt encrusted bike to get ready for next Sunday to do it all over again. Definitely for the mileage glory crowd and oh yea, they offer a "pin" for perfect attendence! It is a NJ based group. Check out the Gold Wing Chapter (er' Troop F) that participates often enough in funny outfits etc. Lots of photos posted on their site and a total mix of bikes and riders. (And no, I'm not knocking em' I say god bless em') I am speaking from experience because I rode several years ago to some of their destinations.

-------------
"The Polar Bear Grand Tour consists of 550 motorcyclists from all over the NJ, NY, PA, DE, and CT area who each individually ride to a designated destination each Sunday. Points are awarded for each ride. When we each reach the destination, we sign-in and write down how many round-trip miles we traveled to get there. Then there is usually a restaurant at the site or nearby where small groups will congregate. There are no planned routes or group rides to get to the destination. The sign-in is usually between 11:30 am & 1:30 pm unless otherwise posted. There are no planned rides after the sign-in. The Polar Bears represent many individual groups and we all come together to ride during the winter under the Polar Bear banner. Checkout our Rules section on the website and look at our Pictures section to see what's going on at the destinations.
The Polar Bear Grand Tour membership is divided into two groups, Flight "A" lead by Ed Schwartzbach and Flight "B" led by Richard Leyh and Dave Cushing. These are your FLIGHT LEADERS and are available to answer any questions you may have. 24 Sunday rides are scheduled to the various designated check points throughout the 4-state area. See our Schedule section on the website for a description of the rides. Rides start October 26, 2008 (opening day at the Cape May V.F.W.) and run through April 5, 2009.

The annual KICK-OFF "SOUTH POLE PARTY" is scheduled for Saturday, November 1, 2008 at the Irish Eyes Pub in Lewes, DE.

The annual year end "NORTH POLE PARTY" and dinner will be held April 25, 2009 at the "Knights of Columbus Hall" in Old Bridge, New Jersey. The closing dinner is FREE for those members who qualify by earning 30 points (see Rules). Those who have not earned their points or guests who wish to attend the dinner may do so by purchasing tickets in advance."
