I have an 04 RKC and I like the looks and lockability of the hard bags. I sold my Leather bags on E-bay and bought new ones there as well. The cost was a wash but I am much happier with the hard bags.
I like them both. Depends on the look you want. The advantage of the hardbags would be the ability to lock them. I'm looking for a set of hardbags for my 05 RKC.
I walked into the dealer to buy a classic RK w/leather bags and came away with the standard w/hard bags. I'm relocating to the Pacific Northwest and my bike is going to be a daily driver. I was in lust with those slick looking leather bags, but, one look at the weather strip seal around the top did it for me. I also thought about what a year of constant rain would do to those slick leather bags. On another note, am I the only one that thinks they're a PITA to close?
Leather is for me right now. They look great & all you need to do is wash them with mild dish washing detergent and protect them with leather seat protector.

The leather bags are a breeze to close. What a lot of people don't realize is that there are quick release buckles hidden behind the leather straps. No need to use the belt buckles if you don't want to. The Road King Classic leather bags are awesome from a standpoint of looks, capacity and ease of use.
I like the looks of the Corbin Beetle bags.....if they dont cost me my first born.....I just might snag me a pair!!! I can get everything I need in them for the type of riding I do.
Have both a RK Classic with Leather Bags and a '07 RG... The Leather LOOOKS BETTER on a RG and they DO HOLD MORE then my RG haed bags but tend to loose there shape after a few years... And now you can get aftermarket locks for the Leather Bags to Secure them...
