Default How to remove baffle

I wanted to remove the baffles on my Rinehart mufflers. I removed the tips and pushed and pulled on the baffle but no luck and I was afraid it would bend or break off before it came loose. The baffle just seemed to be a push fit way up in the beginning of the muffler. How do you change the baffle?

When I had my Reinhart true duals I tried the very same thing to no avail. There are guys on here that will tell you there's came right out. I know there was a baffels design change at some point. My friends 04 EG has Reinharts on it and they come right out. I called Bub and they said spray windex in it from the head pipe side. Tried that......I made a slide hammer and drilled a cross hole in the baffel. I mounted the slide hammer in the holes and hit it for 20 minutes. The bike was sliding across the floor. That didn't work. Finally I gave up, sent the new baffels back and eventually sold the pipes for a new Fat Cat exhaust. I wish I could give you some good advise but I can't. By all rights the baffels should come out.Mine were on an 08 SG. They were on the bike for less than 5K.All I can say is good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try taking the muffler off the bike.Get a pease of closet dowl, and try to tap it out from the back side. You may even spray some WD-40 in to loosen up the rust.I had a set of V&H do the same thing, thats the only way I could get them out.Good luck

P.S. I wouldn't beat on them while there on the bike, you could crack one of the jugs. Then your in deep doo doo.

sorry to hi-jack the thread but what other baffel options does rinehart have? I have the stock baffels in mine and would like them just a touch louder.

baffle options are "normal" and "quiet"...(in the real world that would be "write me a ticket loud" and "I want to annoy and anger you loud"). The "quiet" baffles take a little of the high end edge off the tone but do not quiet anything.

The baffles are pressed in and held in by the rear cap. The best way to remove them is the a hydraulic press, pressing them out from the front. We made a "pusher" out of smaller diameter pipe and flattening it into an oval that contacts the baffle on two sides but doesn't bind or stick in the inlet.

Lacking a press....the best way is to clamp onto the baffle with a pair of vise grips, enlist the help of a friend to hold the muffler, and pull like crazy while rocking the baffle side to side. (prior to having the brain wake up and realize that the press would work better we did about a dozen this way without any problem. . . . and any lubricant just makes the pipes slippery and messy...it harder to get the baffles loose)

Default Baffles

Reinhart offers a performance baffle too. I ordered these and returned them because I couldn't get mine out. The performance baffles are actually supposed to be quieter according to Bub/Reinhart. They will increase your back pressure as well once again according to them. If you try pressing out your baffles from the head pipe side you will find that there is no shoulder to press against. The new design as the ID of the pipe flush with the shoulder it fits up against. There is nothing to push against!! When you look through the pipe from the head pipe side it will look smooth all the way through with just a line around the ID where the baffle meets the inside of the muffler.
Good Luck Again......

The vise grip idea ran through my mind. I just hate the thought of the pipe breaking off or bending some where in the muffler where you can't get at it. Rineharts are loud enough, I would hate to have the pipe break off in there and make the noise even louder.
