On a newer bike, I'll take chrome. But on anything older, and I mean old enough to be as old, or older, than I am, I'll take Nickel. It has a look, feel and charm that most chromes of those era's can't match. I still like the chrome and aluminum of those times, but nickel has that something........ Requires tons of work, but wow when you're done.
the aluminum is not clear coated. If it was it would not polish up. It also would not need to be polished as it would be protected.
I guess you are talking about the bike in your sig. It may not have clear coating. However, everthing made in the last decade has clear on the aluminum.....I have stripped and polished plenty of it to know.

XXX seems like you should know if it is clearcoated or not, just wondering if it is clear coated and in good shape why would you strip it? seems like the clear coat would make it easier to maintain?
[QUOTE=xxxflhrci;4244144]I stripped the clear coat so the parts could be polished. The factory finish isn't polished. It is more of a beadblasted or brushed finish.
The clear is fine if you want the duller look. However, sooner or later it usually pits and/or peels.[/QUOTE gotcha thanks for reply
there r alot of exellent products on the market that keep alunimum lookin great BUT after the clear coat wares off ( rain shine road**** bird ****) it looks like ****.. Oh but then you can sweat ur ***** off tryin to clean it and buff it back to life and man im to old to mess with aluminum man it gets all over ur hands ( i know ive cleaned it for years ) nothin outshines outcleans a good chrome job..

The late models are not coated and after owning a year, no problem keeping it looking good.
Sure wish you guys make up your mind!!!
