took the ultra in for repair of leaking (since new) rear cylinder base gasket and leaking front brake master cylinder (to the point the paint on cylinder was 'bubbling'). they called yesterday to say they had discovered a crack in cross over pipe and would have to order that. just curious of how many others have seen any (or all!) of these problems. also, i wonder if the new, four point engine mounts (less vibration on pipes?), would be better at preventing cross over pipe crack?
Have not ever heard of the crossover cracking, but it does carry quite a bit of heat. Had the dealer ever seen it on an 07? Talk to the mechanic who worked on yours and ask him if he's seen occurances like yours. It could just be a flaw in that particular crossover.
Lot's of pre-Brembo master cyl leakers - you're not alone there. Mostly because they need to be tightened.
Cyl base gasket? It was a problem on the 110 screaming eagles, but apparently they redesigned the gasket. You won't be covered by that though because it's a different gasket then the base engine. It's not a common problem though on a stocker.
Crossover crack? Haven't heard of any stockers with the problem. Rineharts did before their redesign.
You should be golden once the dealer covers the issues!

I haven't heard of problems with the crossover cracking, but my mount just behind the crossover cracked and was replaced early on. If it is cracked it may speed up any potential cracking of the crossover, but my '96 had no support at all on the left pipe except at the rear of the muffler and I had no problems with it after replacing the original for a crack. They supposedly redesigned the part and it lasted almost 100k miles after that. I had assumed they had addressed the cracking problem, but obviously not for all bikes.
I think base gasket problems are rare on TC's (o-ring) but common on Evos (paper). The bubbling of paint around the master cylinder is common on earlier bikes with DOT4 fluid, and a new gasket design was introduced to prevent this (hopefully). The leakage occurs around the top of the gasket because fluid moves too freely in the middle of the gasket assembly on the old design. My front MC leaked (more like oozed) and began bubbling, and both the gasket and cap were replaced in warranty. I have not seen a problem with the rear master cyclinder...yet.
The master cylinder leak is pretty common with the 07's (maybe some 08's?). A walk thru the parking lot at our local hangout will produce a half dozen bikes with the same issue at any given time.
I read somewhere that it was a batch of defective gasket material. I've never seen HD officially respond to this, but when I told the service writer at my dealership about the bubbling paint he told me that it was a known issue and they would replace it with no question (still waiting on the parts). I actually was not sure HD would cover something cosmetic under warranty, but the seepage has been eating the paint on my bike since the first time they cracked the seal to check the level at the 1000k service.
