Question Passing Lights

How useful are the touring passing lights? I'm concidering them for my Street Glide, but I don't want to spend the money if they're just so much Bling. I don't ride that much on dark country roads, but when I do, the SG's single head lamp doesn't really light up the road ahead of me.

I find them quite useful. In conjunction with the low beam they widen the illuminated area quite a bit. If you get them wire them so they don't go off when on high beam. I need to fix that on mine.

Kury has new passing lamps for the SG that I think look really good. About the same price.

The passing lamps are a definite improvement in the lighting.

You should also consider the HD fog lamp kit. $135 list for two 55W halogen bulbs; nice chrome; mount on the engine guard. Much more light, especially laterally, than the passing lamps.

And, take a look at Motolights--caliper mounted driving lights available in 50W version--which is what I'm using now. About $40 more than the HD Custom Aux Passing lamp kit, but provide more light, and you keep the clean front fairing of the SG: http://www.motolight.com/

I love the passing lights on my bike. I improved the amount of light hitting the road by swapping out the fluted bulbs for clear lensed bulbs.

In my opinion, the single best reason for passing lamps is that it greatly improves the chances of seeing you in the daylight. A worthy investment for the increased safety.

Anytime I ride my RK the passing lamps are on. They not only help you see at night, but more importantly, they help the daydreaming drivers see you during daylight hours. If I bought a SG, they'd be the first thing that got added.

I had passing lamps on my Street Glide. IMO they did more for daytime visibility than night time light output.
