I have a Dakota Digital and it works perfectly. I've read the posts by folks who say they're junk and I just don't understand it because I haven't had a bit of trouble with mine. It's never failed to work, AM, FM, Weather Band.

When I bought my wife her 08 SG it had a Dakota Digital already installed. It worked ok but didn't pick up well. One day I took the fairing off to see if moving it would help. Found that the wire going into the male plug that goes into the radio was broke. I emailed Dakota Digital and asked them if they would put a new end on it. They emailed me a RGA and said as soon as they got it they would just send a new one. In the meantime, I put my Ultra antenna (I went to J&M shorties) on the SG and it got great reception. In about 1 1/2 weeks I received a brand new antenna in the same packaging as they are in hanging in the dealership. I installed it and it picks up great. Granted the external whip still picks up better, my wife is very happy that she gets reception with the clean look.

I had a dakota digital and thought it a waste of money. The same with tune trapper. I went back to my whips.

I have tried the amplified hidden, and the Trapper in the fairing. I'm out in the country and the FM reception fluctuates. The WX works OK but the AM is non-existent. After reading the variety of performance posted in this forum, I'm beginning to wonder if those of us having problems are having problems because of RMF under the fairing. The hidden antennas all must sit among a jumble of wires. I think I'll try one of the hidden units mounted on the back of the bike, away from the fairing.
