I just installed the Biketronics Hogtenna antenna today. I have not been out riding with it yet but when I switched over from the standard whip antenna it seems to reduce reception in my garage. Maybe out on the road it will work as well.
I can't tell you a good one to get. I can tell you I tried the Dakota Digital powered antenna and had NO luck with it. My reception was so bad I sent it back to Dakota and they sent me another (thinking I had a bad one). The second one performed just like the first, NONE. I
I'm now looking for a small revolving ball mount to mount to the outside of the fairing.
I bought one from trak auto it was a powered antenna i used the hook up
for the fender tip light to get power it was &19.99 plus tax works great
-ride safe
When I got my bike it already had a Dakota Digital powered antenna, I thought it was a joke, then one time when I had the outer fairing off I was relocating it to see if I could get it to work better and found out the connector to the radio was barely hanging on. I crimped it back on real good and it has actually impressed me on the reception it is getting now.
I have one purchased at an auto audio shop. Looks very similar to Dakota Digital, cost $35. Works fine for me in Metro Atlanta and during my trips--AM reception is probably poorer than FM, but I don't listen to AM enough to reliably say one way or the other. YEMV.
