Default Shift arm assembly....

I'm on my second shift arm oil seal, is this normal? Appears to be alot of play in the shift arm assembly. Could the sleeve be worn or is this nomral? Is the sleeve hard to replace? I have a 2002 RK Thanks!

I had the original seal replaced at 15000 miles. Then the replacement was leaking 5000 miles after that.
Turns out the shift shaft was damaged.Had it replaced under warranty.
Sounds like the shaft on your bike could be worn or damaged.

Mine leaks too. Had the shifter arm replaced due to play. That comes from the splines on the shaft and the grooves in the aluminum shifter arm wearing. Even with the new arm on there, it still wiggles a little!

You have to remove the outer and inner primary to replace the arm. The seal has to be pressed out also, according to the Indy I've been using.

Also, this is a good time to check your shifter linkage shaft where it goes into the outer primary. These wear too and the black rubber bushing on the outside wear too. I replaced the shaft and the rubber bushing which helped snug up the play. The kit for this also comes with 2 sleeves that go inside the outer primary. They have to be pressed out too. Thhis is also to drill it out and put a grease zerk in to keep the shaft lubricated; I put one in. The Indy that used to do our local PD bike service puts the zerks in too. With labor, this whole job is close to $700.00 (in the Boston area)! Crazy for something that SHOULD last 100K anyway.

You'd think by now HD would redesign a better, stronger shifter assembly, etc....NOPE. I make it a point to shift as easy as possible to minimize wear. I don't think you have to slam the shifter to go through the gears like I see many folks do.
