Flush or no flush???
I beleive when He says any good 10w/40 he means any good Motorcycle grade 10w/40. The wet clutch it in the primary and some Automotive grade motor oils have additional lubricants that will cause the clutch to slip. Motorcycle Oil does not have these. Motorcycle oil is designed to support Wet Clutches.
You can use High Grade automotive oil in you motor as there is no clutch.

Yachtman, the white tape is fine however I will be getting the paste as it is easier to use than the tape. You should get 99% of the atf out of the primary when you drain it, the viscosity of the tranny luid is very low, under 10 Visc so it will drain well, wouldnt worry about the residual. I run Mobil 1 V 20/50 , the primary seems to like it better. I know the jumping you are talking about, the Mobil 1 V took care of it in my 3 bikes.
Yachtman, here's an interesting thread on using ATF in the primary.

ATF works fine in the primary, just think about an automatic transmission for a minute. They have gears, bearings, a friction material, and in some front wheel drives they have a chain. Sound familiar, it should you have all this in your primary. Motor oil is meant for motors, not primaries or trannies unless you are in the military and they have transmissions set up for 10W motor oil. If your bike is shifting different check out the clutch adjustment, both in the primary and the cable. We use motor oil in the engines, ATF in the primaries, and Royal Purple in the trannies, that way leaks are easier to chase down. We've been doing this for the last ten years with no problems. Hope this helps.
P.S. Either teflon tape or teflon in a tube will work.

You don't need to use any sealant on the drain plugs, just replace o-rings, add a film of oil to plug and o-ring, torque to 168 in lbs and Your good to go. After You add oil, that is.
