A happy day, but sad, too. I took my final ride on the Roadking. I will tell you that around every curve, my thoughts changed to I can't do this. Why am I doing this, I will never have a bike that rides or handles like the King. Lots of good memories with him from my first ride, first ride to Sturgis, and to Milwaukee!
But, as sad as I am, I know I it was time to move on. I am now the proud owner of a 2009 White & Pewter Pearl Ultra Classic. Will pick up next week, as I am having some upgrades and accessories added.
Excited, as I know I will enjoy this new bike and look forward to getting to know it and what all it will do. Wife and I plan on several longer trips. Wife not giving up her Heritage, yet, but I have a feeling she will be behind me more, again.
Went from an '06 RK Classic to an '08 Ultra - you will NOT be disappointed! Gratz on the new ride - enjoy!!!
Edit - Thanks for taking the time to be a PGR - same here in NV
Congrats! I know it was tough giving up the King. When I watched my last bike ride off I thought "Oh no what have I done" and then got my Ultra!! Really been an awesome bike! Post up some pics when you pick up the new one!!
RD, look on the bright side.
You are getting a brand new bike to log thousands of miles on, and someone else will be getting a beautiful bike that has already been broke in
Thanks guys, yeah, I am now a member of the Geezer Pleazer Group. This past summer riding with a group of Ultras and my wife riding passenger is what made up my mind. We had such a great weekend with our friends and it brought back all the memories of when we first started riding and how we enjoyed seeing the country side. Yeah we are many years older and comfort is important to both us. I look for the wife to ride more with me now, for sure on the longer trips. She isn't ready to give up her Heritage, but she has commented to several how she realized how much she missed riding with me, talking and pointing out things, and taking pictures.
"The King is dead, long live the Ultra" J/K, I know its a sad moment for you. I only had my King for 2 years and 22k miles, traded for an 09 ultra and I am only 45, so it aint no geezer glide, I wish I could tell you that you wont miss the King after you get the Ultra but I would be lying, you will miss it. That said, you will love the Ultra alot. Ride safe my friend.
