Default Fast idle problem

My '08 FLHTCU has an idle issue going on. It wants to stay around 2000rpm sometimes, not always, and it's becoming a real problem. If I roll the throttle backwards it will drop but as soon as I let it go it picks right back up again. I put on 30 miles today and the first 25 everything was fine, idle at stops was around 1000-1100rpms, then it started acting up again and stayed that way until I got home and shut it down, let it sit 10 minutes, re-started and everything was fine again. Is there anything I can check on my own? It is the TBW throttle and SE stage 1 a/c, but his problem was occuring even before the stage 1 was added.

You can do the reset procedure with the ignition, TT380

Thanks for sharing that Dawg, I haven't had this problem so far but have heard of it on the Forum here. Nice to know how to clear it up... Cycle the ignition switch on, then off 4 times with a 10 second delay between each?

Would it be a good practice to let the motor idle for several seconds at normal idle levels before shutting the motor off? This might eliminate the problem from even occuring from what the bulletin said (there is a "memory" of the RPM's from the last 4 shutdowns and that is what causes this?).

Service advisor at my dealer said that it has to do with the throttle grip sensor, and if it is slightly twisted when you hit the kill switch that it resets the idle baseline. As others have suggested, make sure you have your hand off the throttle grip prior to shutting her off.

What everybody else said & using the ignition rather than the kill switch to turn it off may help it from reoccurring.
