I've tried goof-off, first cold pipes then warm. I then tried paint thinner still on warm pipes. next I tried easy-off but I only let it sit for about 40 min. The pipes were luke warm. Last, I tried the steel wool. This worked the best to remove the light residu but didn't even dent the thick crusted pieces. Does the easy-off go on hot, warm or cold pipes. I'll try that again.
When I melted my Frogg Toggs, I used a combination of Goo Gone followed by Never Dull......and for the one area that wouldn't come off....I used 0000 steel wool.
I read about someone using wadded up aluminum foil. Shortly after putting on my new pipes, someone was messing with my bike and melted some sort of plastic on both the front and rear head pipe guards. Oven cleaner wouldn't touch it. So I tried the foil trick. It worked great! I just warmed the pipes a bit and went at it. Then followed with some chrome polish. No scratches or dull spots! Just be sure the pipes are clean of all other grit and grime or you will end up with scratches from that.
For all who use neverdull, I'm glad it works for you. But I used it once upon a time to try to remove a stain on a set of pipes and it left a dull spot in the chrome. I'll never use it again on chrome just because of that. The chrome was clean and the wadding was new, so it had to be the wadding that scratched and dulled the surface.
