I read somewhere when you purchase a new Harley, you have a free one year membership to H.O.G. Is the dealer responsible for the membership or is there something I need to do to get signed up?

The dealer did both of mine and my wifes' memberships after we bought both bikes. Came in the mail a few weeks later...RIDE ON!

Go to your dealer's web site or local HOG chapter's web site and get ahold of on of the officers. Most dealers take care of the first year dues.

I know my national membership will now be good thru 2011 and my locals got 3 months paid, so I think I can afford $10 or $12 dollars for the local dues. LOL

Hey Myred55, with that HOG membership you also get towing but its the minimal plan. When you get your stuff in the mail look at the back of your card and call road side america. For a twenty dollar bill, you can upgrade to unlimited tows, unlimited miles, and I had to use mine twice it saved me $500.00

The way it was explained to me by my dealer is that the dealer that sold you the brand new bike is required by MOCO to pay for your first year (45.00) in National HOG.
If you want to join your local chapter, or any other chapters, then that is "your" dime. This only applies to the purchase of a brand new bike, used bikes purchased from a dealer are not included. If you are already a current member, then you may apply the dealer paid membership to your next renewal.

The local HOG chapter here waves the first year of Dues to the chapter when you get your free National.

First year National HOG paid upon purchase of the new bike (the Dealer signed me all up) and first year Chapter HOG (sponsored by the dealer) also paid by dealer, although that is not the Chapter I decided to join. The Chapter I joined I paid $40 out of pocket.
