One more thing to think about, if you think you may ever want to ad a spoiler, make sure you mount the rack as far forward (toward the seat backrest) as possible to allow room for the spoiler. Everyone has told you correctly that is is easy to do.

Easy job - all good points above.
One other thing I did was to replace the supplied rack bolts with stainless button head bolts from the hardware store. It's a little easier on the things I put inside the tourpack and they won't rust.
I hated drilling holes in my lid by the way, but I needed the extra carrying capacity.

Thanks guys!!
Drilling that first hole is why I asked, and taking the lid off to do the job sounds like a good idea!! I'm going to do it this weekend.
thanks again

I got one from Santa and installed it that day. As said, I put masking take in the area where the feet are. Placed the rack on the lid then eye-balled it from all angles. I put mine about 1 inch aft of the back of the seat rest. To also check position, I used a piece of tape (paper would work) and layed it from the outside edge of each foot to the lower edge of the lid (this edge is sharp and not contoured like the others so you can definitely tell its location). I marked the tape and then adjusted the rack accordingly so it was centered to that edge. Once aligned, I used a pen to draw around the 4 feet on the tape, removed the rack, drilled a pilot hole in the center of each circle on the tape, then drilled to size.
I agree with the first hole bit but, for me it was that second hole. Once it's there, there is zero adjustments you can make.
I used the stock bolts and washers but, I like the idea of the button head screws and sealant. I will go back and redo that part. Nice touch.
Oh, I found the template useless. But that's just me.

I installed it on the Ultra I used to have. The hardest part for me was convincing myself that my marks were in the right place so I could push that drill through the paint. As others have said, use tape, mark clearly and start with a small pilot hole.

Question:
Is the TourPak ABS or fiberglass?
I know that when I drill on my boat I have to countersink the hole a little to prevent cracking around it.
Do you need to do the same on the TourPak?

Mine is on order from Chicago Harley. Good to know it'll hold a case of beer!

Hey guys,
I finished mounting the premium luggage rack this morning. It looks great!!. Took the tour Pak top off and put it on my work bench. Made it easier to see and handle. Used masking tape on the top, measured, marked, re-measured, got my drill ready, and measured again. I will say one thing, that first hole is hard to drill.
Thanks for all the good info!!!

Same here ....... i got the HD rack (can't imagine aftermarker being any different), and put it on in no time. Used tape, drew around the rack, drilled the holes, and there you go.
