I had problems with mine on the re-install. Turns out the top portion of the switch was 180 out from the bottom portion, meaning the offsets of the switch wasnt aligned. I used a flat screwdriver to turn the top portion to re-align it, and the switch re-installed as it was suppose too. Just take some time and look closely to the flanges on the switch in relation to the receiving portion on the bike. You'll see that one side is larger than the other, and if your switch goes in but just not quite making it all the way down its more than likely the tumblers are 180 out. Good luck!
If it doesn't press down like you said make sure you have the inter parts right side up .. check the bottom Black piece to make sure its not up side down..
The problem comes with the set of tumblers farthest down inside the hole. You don't reach those with the shaft on the ignition switch. But as in most cases, you DONT need to buy a special HD tool just because they say you do.
Grab a handful of different size flat blade screwdrivers and start sticking them down the hole. Hopefully one of them will have a blade that's small enough to pass the first set of tumblers but long and wide enough to reach down and catch on the second set. You'll know you found the right size because your face will break out into a huge grin. (If not, take the two that are closest to the right size to the hardware store bargain bin and buy a cheapie that's in between) Use the screwdriver to turn the second tumblers to the "lock" position. Remove the screwdriver and mark it so that you'll know which one you need next time. Use the ignition switch to set everything else. Drop the switch into the hole and go riding.
Well, I thought I had it but all I did was unlock the forks.
I guess I have to get the forks locked back up and try again
I'm going to finish putting my fairing back on on first I hate seeing it that.
If you got the fork unlocked, you should only need to align the top tumbler with the bottom now. The switch will go back in in any position I think. I've always taken mine out in the lock position, but I never let the fork turn far enough to lock. That way you can turn it back and forth to work on whatever mod your doing, just don't let it go all the way to the left stop.
