Well, I have the entire inner fairing reinstalled, everything is hooked up and I still can't get the switch reinstalled. I have the manual and have reread the section over and over. I'm going to leave it alone for a while then try again.
I did rotate the tumblers, I beleive they are lined up.
Do the forks have to be locked?
Will it go back in any position?
Does the little tang have to be depressed in order to seat the switch?
Turn your front wheel to the left stop (lock position). Use your flat blade screwdriver to turn the deepest set of tumblers to the far left. (When you have it, the handlebars lock into place. You can't proceed until they do.) Then drop the ignition switch into the hole and turn it to the lock position. I haven't done it in a while, but I think all you have to do is push down on the switch, but if that doesn't work try pressing the tang.
I think you said you had a manaul. Open it to page 8-49 item 16. Once you have the forks locked to the left you are half way home. Please read 16A, 16B and 16C very carefully. In short once you have the fork lock drop the unit in the hole and rotate the unit clockwise. Usually it's a couple the postions until it drops from the word fork lock. Pull out the unit and install your screw driver down the hole no more than 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch. Then turn the upper tubbler as many clicks as it toook for the unit to drop. Once you re install the unit make sure your key is in and at least 60 degrees beyond the unlock position (14A). Drop it in the hole and it should work.
how about some pictures guys.. i changed my inner fairing to a painted one 9havent changed lower inner yet and im worried about removing and replacing the switch as well....pictures would be great...im kinda stupid...lol
There's nothing to take a picture of, really. You stick a screwdriver into the hole where the ignition switch was and turn it CCW. It's not complicated, you just have to have the right size screwdriver. Plus there are drawings in the service manual.
Man, I thought I was the only one... Changed the fork oil on my RG last night, yeah I fugged up the switch. Had a mech buddy of mine walk me thru it on the phone, ain't working for me. Too proud to call him out for a house call.
Thought I'd check the forum viola and found this thread... I'm going in folks.
