I dropped my bike off last night to my local shop (non-dealer) for it's 10K mile service and picked it up this evening. Along with the standard complete service I also had both tires (Dunlops) and tubes replaced which required the labor for the removal of both wheels, mount, balance, etc. The shop also replaced the standard HD SE air cleaner filter element with the K&N element. They also did some tweaking with the PCIIIusb in regards to installing another map and making adjustments to various settings. Other than that is was the complete, standard service.
For doing the above services and additional parts, what should I have expected to pay (ballpark figure)?
I don't know about you but all that would cost me absolutely nothing... I have the preferred customer plan and pay nothing for service or parts... In fact, I even get a rental while they are working on my bike... Cost... none... no matter what parts or service there is... I swear by the preferred customer plan!!!! I think it is near perfect...
Mine is going in next week for the 10K. In addition, I'm replacing both Dunlop Whitewalls, Switching over to synthetic, and having my SERT tweaked with my awesome T-Rex true duals and K&N. I did the preliminary SERT so it may be close.
My 10K is prepaid. I paid $1,100 for Service thru 15K. I'm figuring on $400 for the tires, mount and balance, another $400-$500 for the SERT (8 hours labor and dyno) and maybe $50 for the synthetic upgrade.
All I can say is live and learn. I know from now on I will be making time for doing the services myself. I have the shop, tools and ability. The only thing missing was the time. However, I would've made out like a bandit if I had paid $1,100 for my services through 15K.
Live and learn.
Below is a scanned image of the invoice. For jobs that are out of my ability should I be looking for a new shop to do the work? Based on their hand written invoice they charge $60 an hour. When you really have no clue and not too sure what to expect that has a way of leading to invoice shock.
